Do not use the drivers on Y-E Data Web Pages for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer Product) models.

OEM models are shipped with their own customized drivers. Please use the driver that comes with your product, not the ones available on this page. If your drive was not sold under the Y-E Data name, please contact your PC maker or dealer for support.

Will the USB HMD work with Mac OS 8.5?

Answer:
The USB HMD driver for Macintosh does not support Mac OS 8.1 and Mac OS 8.5. If your iMac has Mac OS 8.1 or Mac OS 8.5, please update Mac OS 9.0 or later.

Question:
Will the USB HMD work with Mac OS 8.6?

Answer:
If you are using an iMac 233, iMac 266 or Power Mac G3 B&W with Mac OS 8.6 please download the new driver Ver 1.1.1 from USB HMD
down load page. The older driver Ver 1.1 requires Mac OS USB Version 1.3 or later on the Mac OS 8.6, which is not included with the above mentioned models.

Note:
If you are using an iBook, iMac DV/SE or Power Mac G4 that has Mac OS 8.6 pre-installed, you don't need to update your driver. These Mac work with both driver Ver 1.1 and 1.1.1.

Question:
How to check the Mac OS USB version?

Answer:
You can check the Mac OS USB version with The Apple System Profiler.

1) Open Apple System Profiler.



2) Click the "Devices and Volumes" tab of Apple System Profiler.

3) Check following the USB version. In this case, the USB version is 1.2.

Question:
Why do I get the message "The USB device cannot operate because it needs more power than is available."?

Answer:
Be sure to use a self-powered USB hub with AC adapter, if you use USB hubs. Do not connect the USB HMD to the USB port on the Mac keyboard. Please connect the USB HMD to the USB ports on the computer.

Question:
Why does my new Power Mac G4 freeze at startup if a USB HMD is connected?

Answer:
There seems to be a problem with some versions of Power Mac G4, iBook, and PowerBook running Mac OS 9.0.2 or Mac OS 9.0.3. See Apple Computer's Tech Info Library for more information.

To work around the problem: unplug the USB HMD from your Mac before startup. After the Mac finishes startup, plug the USB HMD back in.

Solution:
Install Mac OS 9 Update (9.0.4) using the Software Update control panel. You can also download it from Apple Software Updates at http://www.apple.com/swupdates/.

Will the USB HMD work with the Mac OS X?

Answer:
Yes, USB HMD work with Mac OS standard build-in driver of Apple computer.
USB HMD require Mac OS X version 10.1.2 or later. So please update if you are using old version of Mac OS X.

Question:
Why does my USB HMD only recognize Compact Flash cards?

Answer:
Please check following.

  • If you are using Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9.
    Please install the driver software from driver CD-ROM. The build in driver software of Mac OS 9 support USB Mass Storage device, but it only support CompactFlash Card slot.

  • If you are using Mac OS X Version 10.0 through Version 10.1.1.
    Please update Mac OS X Ver 10.1.2 or later. The build in driver software of Mac OS X Ver 10.0 through 10.1.1 support USB Mass Storage device, but it only support CompactFlash Card slot.

  • If you are insert CompactFlash into HMD before connecting USB cable.
    Please insert CompactFlash after connecting the USB cable.

  • If you are insert CompactFlash into HMD before starting up Mac.
    Please insert CompactFlash after stating up the Mac OS.

Why can't I use certain SD Memory Cards?

Answer:
Some recently sold Secure Digital cards (SD card) are not accessible using
the YD-8V14. Therefore, we have made some enhancements to the
firmware of the YD-8V14 to allow access to these new types of cards.

Solution:
Please be sure to read carefully Updater User's Manual before updating
your firmware.

To determine if your YD-8V14 needs to be updated, please refer to the
serial number on the bottom of your YD-8V14. If......

How do I get custom icons using Mac OS X?

Answer:
You need to install the Y-E DATA Custom Icon Utility. This will give you
custom icons under OS X 10.2.6 or higher.

Question:
Why do I lose my USB connection when my computer goes to sleep?

Answer:
This is a known issue that some USB devices have with certain builds of OS X.
Fortunately, there is a simple fix by updating the firmware of your drive.

Solution:
Please be sure to carefully read the Updater User's Manual before updating
your firmware.

Answer:
You cannot boot your computer from the USB HMD.

Question:
Why can't I start the PC or why does it take a long time to start up my Laptop PC when connect the USB HMD?

Answer:
Some Laptops or Note Book PCs (like the IBM ThinkPad) can take long time to start up when a CompactFlash Card is inserted on boot.
In this case, remove any CompactFlash cards from the USB HMD when starting your PC.
The cause of this problem is the BIOS CODE is trying to boot from the USB HMD as a USB Storage device.

Question:
Will my USB HMD work with Windows XP Professional and Home Edition?

Answer:
Yes, USB HMD works with the standard built in drivers of Windows XP. So, the USB HMD can be simply plugged in and will be recognized by the OS automatically.
However, the various card types will appear as a generic "removable drive" icons. We have a drive label utility that will install custom drive labels that will make it easier to differentiate the various cards easily. If you want take this drive label utility, please download the utility.

YD-8V14(Hexa Media Drive) does not support MemoryStick Pro card, nor 2GB or above SD/SDHC card.
We are sorry that we do not have a plan to update the firmware of this product.
