USB Floppy drive YD-8U10

Compatible OS versions

This device cannot support Mac OS X 10.0 to 10.0.4, because the Mount/Unmount function gives a problem under those versions. The device operates with Apple's built-in driver that comes standard with Mac OS X 10.1 (Build 5G64) or higher.

How to install

Since this device operates with the OS-standard built-in driver, you can simply use it by connecting the USB cable.

Compatible media and format

  • 2HD Mac standerd 1.4 MB: Read / Write
  • 2HD DOS 1.44 MB: Read / Write
  • 2DD DOS 720 KB: Read / Write

Restrictions

  • It takes about 60 seconds to mount a DOS-format diskette.
This is a known issue. DOS diskette support on Mac OS X has not
been optimized yet. This should be fixed in a future version of the
operating system. A Mac-format diskette can be mounted in about
    10 seconds.

  • Under Mac OS X, it is impossible to format (initialize) to Mac-standard 1.4 MB, because the OS does not have the appropriate menu. Only the DOS format can be obtained. To format, use the disk utility. The format can be selected from among the following:

    Mac extended:
The media cannot be formatted. Formatting will stop halfway. (Unplug and plug the USB cable once.)

    Mac standard:
The media can be formatted and recognized under Mac OS X, but not recognized under Mac OS 9 or earlier. (It is regarded as a hard disk format.)

    DOS:
The media operates normally and this format is compatible with Windows as well.

    UNIX:
The media cannot be formatted. Formatting is stopped halfway. (Unplug and plug the USB cable once.)

  • Mac-format media formatted with Mac OS 9.x and 8.x are readable and writable, but the desktop folders, hidden files, become visible. And the volume name comes "untitled". (This problem had been fixed at Mac OS X 10.1.1)

USB MemoryStick Reader YD-8V10

Compatible OS versions

This device cannot support Mac OS X 10.0 to 10.0.4, because the problem that the media is mounted again immediately after unmount is given under those versions.

The device operates with Apple's built-in driver that comes standard with Mac OS X 10.1 (Build 5G64) or higher.

How to install

The device can be simply used by connecting the USB cable.

Compatible media

4- to 128-MB MemoryStick (DOS Format only)

Restrictions

  • It is recommended that MemoryStick formatting be done on the digital camera. If you format the MemoryStick under Mac OS X, your digital camera may not be able to access it.
USB Tri-Media Reader YD-8V00

» FAQ's about Tri-Media Reader

Compatible OS versions

You can use Tri-Media Reader on Mac OS X 10.1, 10.2 - 10.2.8, and 10.3 - 10.3.3.
Unfortunately, you can't use it on Mac OS X 10.0 and 10.3.4 - 10.3.9.

Tri-Media Reader driver (Ver. 1.10) enables the card reader segment. The FDD segment is supported by Mac OS X built-in driver, so you don't have to install any additional driver.

How to install

There are two drivers available. Choose a file that correspond to your Mac OS, and download it.

  1. Since this file is compressed with StuffIt, expand it with StuffIt Expander under Mac OS X 10 (Under normal circumstances, the file is expanded simply by double-clicking.) StuffIt Expander is installed as standard in the Utility folder of the application.

  2. When the file is expanded, the installer package TriMediaReader.pkg is given. Then double-click it to start.

  3. Administrator authentication is required. Click on the key mark located in the lower part, and type your user name and password.

  4. Afterwards, proceed with installation according to the prompts. At the completion of installation, the OS is restarted.

Description

The filename of the driver file (actually a folder) is "TriMediaReader.kext". When installed, the driver file is copied to the directory "/System/Library/Extensions". This driver software is licensed from SmartDisk Corporation.

Compatible media and format

  • Floppy Diskette
    - 2HD Mac standerd 1.4 MB: Read / Write
    - 2HD DOS 1.44 MB: Read / Write
    - 2DD DOS 720 KB: Read / Write
  • SmartMedia card
    - 4- to 128-MB (3 or 3.3 volt) Media (DOS Format only)
    - The 5-volt card is not supported.
  • CompactFlash card
    - Type I and Type II CompactFlash cards (DOS Format only)
    - IBM Microdrive 340 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB (DOS Format only)

Restrictions

  • The restrictions on the FDD segment are the same as those on the USB Floppy drive YD-8U10.

  • All types of media are indistinguishable because they use the same icon as that for the Mac OS-standard removable disk.

  • If an attempt is made to eject all of the three media at a time, the ejection sometimes cannot be accomplished. Eject one by one.
(To eject, drag and drop the drive icon into the Trash.)

  • If you downloaded a Trial version of driver from SmartDisk Corporation's (VST) Web site and installed it, the device may not operate normally on Mac OS X 10.1. Uninstall the driver. SmartDisk Corporation's driver is named as SmartDiskTriMedia.kext (Ver. 1.0.0), which is installed in the directory "/System/Library/Extensions.".

  • It is recommended that CompactFlash and SmartMedia formatting be done on the digital camera. If you format the MemoryStick under Mac OS X, your digital camera may not be able to access it.
